Live Abalone

Live greenlip abalone has very specific requirements regarding water quality (temperature, oxygen, Ph, salinity etc) so live exports require great attention to detail.  To be successful, it is necessary for careful co-ordination of air transport and buyers must have suitable re-hydration tanks to ensure successful translocation.

As suitable facilities for an airfreight container of live abalone are not normally available, most buyers are preferring quick frozen abalone. » Enquiries

Quick Frozen Abalone

SAS has found Individual Quick Frozen (IQF) abalone an excellent product. Freezing is completed quickly ensuring abalone maintain appearance, taste and texture. 

Frozen abalone can be sent by sea-freight, which is very cost effective for large quantities. Reasonably priced airfreight can be used for frequent supplies of smaller quantities. When air freighted, abalone are kept frozen with ‘dry ice’ for the duration of the flight.

Frozen abalone can be graded for size and packed to customer requirements.  Frozen abalone can also be pre-packed ready for supermarket shelves.

Frozen abalone are normally between 65mm and 90 mm + in size depending on market demand.  They weigh between 42 gm and 116 gm.

Canned Abalone

Canning is the established method of supplying abalone and widely accepted in markets due to convenience and long life.  Cans are packed by a long established processor to the highest food standards.

Cans are 213 gm net drained weight with between 8 and 16 abalone per can depending on buyer preference.

Cans can be labelled with a SAS label or with a label used by the buyer. » Enquiries
